According to experts, immigrant workers have played a significant role in the United States economy throughout history. In 2019 28.4 million foreign-born workers were participating in the US economy. It is around 17% of the total labor force in the United States. According to researchers more than half of the labor force increase in the last decade is caused by immigrants and their children. And according to them in the next three decades, almost all labor force increases will be caused by immigrants.

The president trumps immigration policy have been setting limits to both legal and illegal migrant workers in the United States. President trump signed an executive order on June 22nd, suspending the entry of certain types of temporary workers into the United States until 2021. The unemployment rates are sky-high due to the COVID 19 pandemic. And many Americans are struggling to find jobs. By restricting temporary workers from overseas the government expects the economy to be “America first” which puts native Americans a top priority when it comes to the job market.

On April 21st president trump issued a 60-day pause on the issuing of new green cards. This pause freed a record number of jobs by the end of May. And also after president Trump’s executive order on 22nd of June, the economy freed up approximately 50000 jobs for the Native Americans. And trump administration also froze five work-related visa types until the end of the year. Those visa types include, he H-4 visas for spouses or children of H-1B holders, the H-2B visa for nonagricultural low skilled workers, the J1 visa for work and student exchanges, and the L-1 visa for intercompany transfers. a revision to this order allowed dependent family members to apply for a visa as long as the primary visa holder currently resides within the United States.

Even though temporary immigrant workers are only a fraction of the total workforce, those workers are critical in many sectors. According to experts, immigrant workers perform jobs that are Americans not willing to do or not capable of doing. The tech industry involves the most foreign workers in America. Many workers from abroad have been brought into the country because they are cheaper than hiring a Native American for a simple entry-level job requiring no special skills.

According to the ACLU immigrant, workers pay 90 billion dollars a year on taxes, and they only receive 5 billion dollars of worth welfare in return. According to experts, the immigration ban might give other nations a competitive edge in the global market. Many people settle in unites states and start new companies to drive the US economy, and with the ban, those people are more likely to start new companies in their native countries, supporting their own economy.

According to economic experts, the immigrant ban may lead some big companies to leave America and move there business to another country which allows migrant workers. And that could eventually lead the American economy to a serious crisis. Finding a middle ground in this issue has been very difficult, the Americans are suffering from unemployment from one side and the economy might suffer in the future due to the lack of foreign talent.
