Science and technology have improved so much over the last 20 to 30 years. And artificial intelligent AI is one of the most controversial things that scientists have improved. It will only be a matter of time before we successfully create artificial intelligence that can surpass the intelligence of a human being. Scientists and AI specialists guess that in the next 10 to 50 years we will be able to manufacture a self-functioning AI that can surpass humans.

Not all AI systems are intelligent enough to have an effect on humanity. In the lower end of the AI spectrum, there is an artificial intelligence called Weak or Narrow AI. These AI’s can only be used in a fairly limited range of tasks. Alexa, Siri, and all other personal assistant software and most of the things around you can be categorized as Weak AI. As an example based on your browsing habits amazon suggests some products that you might be interested in buying. Any software that adapts based on user interaction can be known as Weak or Narrow AI.

Above the narrow AI, there is artificial general intelligence AGI. And these types of intelligence can apply solutions for a much wider range of applications. And scientists often refer the AGI’s that have the ability to experience consciousness as strong AI. These are AI’s that are more intelligent and efficient than humans. But they are not in the stage where they can rapidly self-improve and go rouge.

Above all that, there is artificial superintelligence. Scientists believe that these AI’s can even end all humanity. It is expected to be smarter and more capable than all the world’s smartest minds combined. And it will get more intelligent every second. It will have an unlimited amount of knowledge and have answers to questions we haven’t even thought of yet. It’s still unclear whether these ASI’s will be friendly to the humankind.

As an example, if there were to be any existing ASI what will happen when we task it with ending world hunger? The easiest solution for the ASI will eliminate humans then there will be no hunger in the world. It may look like a very strange solution to the problem but think how the AI sees humans. We see ants and other insects as insignificant and far less intelligent than we are, therefore we have a small value for their lives and we will step on them without thinking twice. That’s the same way an artificial super intelligence will see humans. To AI we will be nothing more than a parasite that causes destruction and damage to the entire world. And if it sees the human race as a threat to the AI’s extinction, we won’t be able to do anything against something that million times more intelligent than humans.

How can we stop something that has access to all of our knowledge and more? And have access to control our computer systems and control our existing weapons like nuclear weapons and more. This AI would even build something threatening to humans that we can’t even understand. Leading expert’s except true artificial intelligence to be our final invention and greatest achievement in history that leads to our own destruction.

There is also a possibility that all of this may not come to pass. Humans have always found ways to survive our most destructive inventions and use them to improve our lives. If we can develop an AGI with human emotions and feelings we will be able to create the greatest powerful force for good in the history of mankind.
