As we are all aware by now, coronavirus is a sort of virus that has a high spread rate and a considerable fatality rate. It spread from human to human by respiratory system fluids of an infected person. However, we know that this virus can stay alive on certain surface for a long time. These are all old news and we most certainly are aware of those.  Back in beginning of the March, WHO declared coronavirus as a global pandemic. Which means, it has spread across the globe and continents.  As this happened, the rumor mill started to work. Some speculated that this was developed in a lab and some people tried to equalize this with a biological attack. Lot of rumors started to fly. However, the latest victim of these accusations is 5G.  Yes, the latest wireless mobile technology is also coming under the Coronavirus rumor mill. However, there is no any scientific evidence for this. You can be rest assured that there is no way that this could happen. Viruses are sort of a life form, but 5G waves are just radio waves that belong to the Electro-magnetic spectrum.  It doesn’t contain any particles. But as you know viruses can’t multiply by themselves. They need a live cell to multiply. Since radio waves doesn’t carry any live cells with them, this theory is invalid even to begin with.

But this is not an excuse for conspiracy theory builders. In some areas in certain countries, Telecommunication engineers has come across the threats of the public, when they attended to their 5G implementing sites. And number of towers has set on fire because of these conspiracy theories. This has led to some serious events and in UK, mobile network providers requested from National medical director to explain this situation to people. What people doesn’t realize is, communication is one of the key aspects in facing a pandemic like this. If we keep setting fires to telephone towers, how are we going to face this pandemic as a community? This rumor initially started and spread in social media. Even some celebrities started spreading this news on their social media handles, which triggered other people as well.  Many YouTube channels, Facebook groups and accounts engaged in this activity of spreading fake news. However, YouTube announced that they are removing all of these misleading videos from their platform. Twitter also did their part by labeling misleading tweets. In addition to that they posted links to legitimate information sources.

However, most of social media giants announced that they are taking needful steps to prevent spreading of misinformation. As a counter step, YouTube posted videos with WHO approval on their platform.  Anyway, now these hoax videos are under YouTube’s black list.

All of those false and misleading claims about the link between 5G and Coronavirus has disregarded by health professionals and personals.  They stated that these stories, that has been spreading doesn’t have any scientific validity and as responsible professionals, they dismiss these claims entirely.  In addition to that they pointed out this virus spreads from human to human by contact and radio waves doesn’t have to do anything about that.

In case you didn’t know 5G is the latest wireless mobile technology. Although it still in the implementing phase there are number of regions that has transferred to 5G. But you can’t experience the full 5G benefits on your old mobile phone. You have to use a new mobile phone that has the capability to handle the wavelength and the frequency (signal) of the 5G signals. It is considered to be something revolutionary because of the internet speed that it can achieve. But from the very beginning stages of 5G, people started to speculate about it and the certain health concerns that might come with it. Lot of people came front to talk about health impact that could happen from the technology. One of the major concerns that they are still raising is the radio signal itself. Because since it is a short wave it can’t travel long distances like the 4G waves does.  Therefore, network providers have to build more and more cellular towers to cover the geographical areas and this could increase the radiation levels that could ultimately harm humans in numerous ways. For instance, cancer and infertility. But experts have certified that there is nothing wrong with the 5G waves and all international originations associated with telecommunications and electronics have given their approval to implement the technology. However, since this is a new technology, we can’t definitively say that this is completely harmless. But trying to link coronavirus and 5G is just ridiculous. As we mention again and again, it spreads from human to human by contact. You can’t get infected by watching TV or making a phone call. Therefore, these claims are nothing but internet hoax.
